THE STORY OF A PHOTOGRAPHER...

You ever looked at your life and wondered why you’re here? What your specific purpose is? When I was 23, I left my corporate job of 8 years because the moment I completed my first photoshoot, I knew what my purpose was. To physically show people just how beautiful they are.

To understand the significance of this, you have know a little background about me… When I was in high school I was severely bullied for my acne and my body type. I remember the anxiety I felt before my senior pictures because I truly didn’t feel beautiful. I wore an intense amount of makeup every day to cover my natural features and I wore clothes that hid the parts of my body that I didn’t feel were good enough.

So when I started taking photos of friends for fun, I remember some of the most common things I would hear were “can you make me skinner” or “can you photoshop this part of me”. And I remember looking at my clients and thinking “if only you could see what you look like through my eyes. Because you wouldn’t want to change a single thing.”

So I started to point out every beautiful feature I saw in my clients and complimented the little things I noticed with not only their external beauty but their personality as well. And on my screen I watched my subjects blossom and become so much more confident in themselves.

And I know what you’re thinking— this isn’t a standard “get to know me” bio. I could go on and tell you about my two pups (who are scraggly mutts but are absolutely perfect), how I graduated from NKU with a journalism degree, or how I have spent the last 6 years perfecting my craft by training with some of the best in the biz. But the best way to truly know me, is to understand where I come from and why this is more than a job to me.

I learned very quickly that the power I hold when my camera is in my hand is far more impactful than I could have ever imagined. I have the privilege of catching a teary-eyed smile when a father watches his daughter marry the love of her life. I get to showcase a senior who is unaware of the impact they are about to have on the world. And I can prove to the boudoir client that she is far more powerful than she gives herself credit for.

I’m not just a photographer. I’m your best friend. Your biggest cheerleader. And your consistent hype-woman. Why?

Because you don’t have to be a model to feel like one.
